More than 100 years ago Auguste Maillefer, a dentist and former watchmaker, founded the company and began designing and manufacturing innovative files, giving us access to the latest developments in endodontic solutions. Therefore, in this article we summarize all Maillefer files for being one of the most prestigious brand of many of them.
Here are the most specific characteristics of their manual files and their different presentations
Maillefer Manual Files: ReadySteel
To this set of Maillefer manual files belong: K-File ReadySteel files, K-FlexoFile files, K-Golden Medium files,...
Features of ReadySteel Files:
Their presentation is in blister for a unique use with each patient and they are also sterilized. They have optimal cutting efficiency. They avoid the risks of cross-contamination while decreasing the risk of fracture. Manufactured from stainless steel and fitted with a silicone bumper to limit the depth of root canal preparation. The handle design is plastic or silicone. These files can be reprocessed for multiple uses following the manufacturer's reprocessing instructions.
- K-FlexoFile Files
TK-FlexoFile Files also belong to this line. They have incredible flexibility, unsurpassed cutting efficiency and a non-slip silicone handle make these Maillefer files the best choice for narrow channels and with a pronounced curvature.
All FlexoFile files are made of stainless steel and are finished off with a non-cutting tip. This tip offers a less aggressive finish for greater safety when using them. K-FlexoFile are available in 21mm, 25mm, y 31mm.

- K-FlexoFile Golden Medium
The K-Golden Medium Files have an intermediate ISO number which makes them a standard range instrument and avoids the passage from one number to another. These files also stand out for their great flexibility. These files can be used in 21mm, 25mm y 31mm.
- C+Files Ready Steel
- Senseus Flexofile
The Senseus Flexofile Instrument is unique in that its silicone handle is as flexible as the metal part of the file. The large handle is very ergonomic and allows for great comfort and excellent response. The file has marks calibrated to 25 and 31mm that are visible through X-rays in such a way that help in diagnosis and accuracy. The file is made from a triangular-shaped stainless steel extrusion and is finished in a Batt® tip.
- Senseus Hedstroem
The useful life of these files is about 5 years. The expiry date is indicated on the packaging. The sterile is lost if the container is broken. Sterility cannot be guaranteed if the package is open, damaged or wet, so check the integrity of the package before using the instruments. It does not require specific storage conditions, so you can easily store them wherever you prefer.

SureFlex® Nickel-Titanium Files
Maillefer's SureFlex files are made from a Nickel-Titanium alloy, a material that gives them extraordinary flexibility while maintaining the cutting capacity of stainless steel. Flexibility is not the only strength of these instruments, as Maillefer's SureFlex fileshave a much higher cutting capacity than competing Niqueel-Titanium endodontic files.
SureFlex files have a variable geometry maintaining the same flexibility coefficient in all diameters. In other words, Maillefer SureFlex files are intended to be rigid in their finest sizes, allowing endodontists who use them to reach the apexes without problems. On the other hand, in wider sizes the files are very elastic in order to enter through channels with a very pronounced curvature.
As you can see, Maillefer has evolved in its design and manufacture of endodontic files for many years. Some files have been replacing others, always offering the market more quality and improvements. We hope that this classification has helped you to know a little more about their manual files.
