Dental Matrices

Dental matrices are bands or strips made from steel, acetate or brass to restore the tooth's original shape and function and to achieve a proper contact relationship between neighbouring teeth.

The function of matrices is to provide a physical protective barrier between the filling and the cavity being treated, whilst maintaining the integrity of the adjacent tooth, preventing the restorative material from being introduced and avoiding iatrogenic damage from burs and other cutting instruments.
