Eugenol is an essential oil in dentistry, often used as an endodontic sealant and a component of dental cement. When mixed with the zinc oxide produces the salt zinc eugenate which forms a matrix for use as dental cement. This component of the cement is very soft, ideal for very sensitive areas or areas close to the pulp to protect it from blockages, as it is non-irritating and non-aggressive. Caution should be exercised as they are soft and not very resistant to fluids such as saliva, i.e. they affect the setting of composites or adhesives.

Indications for use of Eugenol:

• Eugenol zinc oxide cement residues interfere with the setting of the resins.
• It is non-irritating and non-aggressive.
• Keep closed after use.
• Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C.
