Dental Posts (or Pins)

In general the different brands of prefabricated poles have the screwdriver equipment or inserts, special milling cutters, ductwork, strawberries to smooth the root both internally and externally and patterns of metal or plastic.
Advantages of prefabricated posts :
Relative ease of use and immediate availability.
Some systems (Whaledent) provide exhaust channels to decrease the hydraulic pressure of cement
Different sizes and possibility of combining the post with pins.
In thin ducts their adaptation is good.
Shorter clinical time than poles emptied, since they can be placed in a session.
Possibility to use them in emergencies.
Its price is lower
They are markedly resistant.
Disadvantages of posts :
The cylindrical shaped bolts require a great depth in conical conduits.
Lack of adaptability in all cases. The duct must conform to the shape of the post and not the post to adapt it to the shape of the duct.
Need for a different material for the construction of the stump. It is possible chemical reactions when the stump and the post are of different metal.
Its application is limited when a large amount of tooth has been lost.
There is no suitable design for all types of ducts.
The large number of materials makes it difficult to select properly.
The prefabricated post system consists of three components:
The prefabricated post (with different shapes and textures)
The material of the stump: Glass ionomer, Composite resin, Amalgam
Post cement: Glass ionomer, Polycarboxylate, zinc phosphate, composite resin base
