Oral Surgery After Care

18/03/2019 - 11:27

One of the worst problems to face after having a oral surgery is the recovery process that can often go on for a long time, one of the symptoms that the body resents with greater notoriety is the swelling that goes from the cheek to the forehead in some cases. We know that this can scare you and cause a bit of despair about the time the recovery takes and even in some cases people prefer to resist the discomfort caused by the health issue to avoid having to face the terrible discomfort post surgery. Among the symptoms that represent major disadvantages we can find the following ones:

Occasionally there may be:

  • Limitation in opening the mouth
  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Bleeding
  • Bruising
  • General discomfort

Oral surgery recovery time

Recovery times could go anywhere from 5 days up to 2 weeks depending on how the surgery was performed, if an incision was needed it would take longer for sure and you would need to take better care, and the best hygiene

The swelling of the face at the affected area is part of the normal healing process. Generally signs and symptoms reach its maximum on the second - third post-intervention day and tends to decrease on the fourth - fifth day.
To limit the swelling, apply a bag containing ice on the spot with applications lasting 30 minutes, at 30 minute intervals, for a total of 6-8 applications. After the first 24 hours in any case suspend the application of ice.

In case of persistence of swelling even after the first 24 hours, make hot compresses wet until the problem is completely resolved. The applied product must be very hot, almost boiling, to perform its andiedemigena function. Repeat the procedure whenever possible, until the symptoms are resolved.

In any case, avoid exposing yourself to the sun and staying in overheated environments; a temperature rise is also possible within the first 48 hours.
