In this article you will learn all about the different instruments used in endodontics.
Rubber Dam:
To begin with, in modern dentistry, the rubber dam is a necessity for every dental surgery such that its use will greatly contribute to the success of many dental treatments. The installation of the rubber dam takes a couple of minutes but its benefits easily outweigh its few drawbacks. It is essential for moisture control, it improves visibility, and protects the oral, labial and lingual areas of the oral cavity. The increased visibility and protection that the rubber dam offers also makes certain operations much more efficient.
Exploration Instruments:
The anatomy of the tooth dictates where the canals of the tooth are most commonly located, but pulp stones, calcifications, or restorations that have previously taken place can alter the anatomy of these root canals. Which is why the endodontic scanner is used to locate holes and remove calcifications that may be found.
Removal Instruments: Nerve broaches are used for nerve removal, and do not actually serve to widen root canals. The thyro-nerves are formed from a cone-shaped metal tip that is raised by metal flakes. This way, the tyrannoid enters the canal smoothly, but when it comes out it gets caught in the pulp tissue, pulling it out and extracting it from the canal. Consequently, a thicker, looser-spanning tyranner is then used inside the root canal.
The thyroid must always enter the root canal loosely, as otherwise the risk of fracture of the canal increases considerably.
Widening of the root canal: K files
The purpose of K files is to widen the canals of the tooth. This type of file is gradually introduced into the 1/2 turn and 1/4 turn canal while pressing against each of the walls so that the friction widens the canals. The process is repeated against each of the walls until the diameter of the channel is large enough to use a file of the following size. This process should not be carried out too quickly as the root canal must be sufficiently widened before proceeding with the next file. Also, it's important to note that the file must be cleaned repeatedly during use.
Depth measurement: Endodontic instruments should always be used with a rubber stop to control their depth. If the rubber buffer is not positioned perpendicularly, the measurement will be wrong.
