periodontal instrumentation:

• place the tip of a gracey curette against the tooth surface at one-third or one-half of the cutting edge.
• the cutting edge is always the longest external curved part.
• make sure the lower shank is parallel to the root surface.
• apply moderate pressure to remove the stone and slight lateral pressure to perform root planing, and activate the curette by vertical, diagonal or horizontal movements.
