Description
Biological Steam Sterilisation Indicator BT20
BT20 is a Bionova biological indicator manufactured for the control of steam sterilisation processes. Ideal for vacuum assisted steam sterilisation cycles at 121-134°C and for gravity air displacement steam sterilisation cycles at 121-134°C.
It features a coloured indicator that indicates whether sterilisation was successful or not. If it changes from purple to yellow, it means that the sterilisation cycle has not been performed correctly as there are live Geobacillus stearothermophilus spores. If it remains purple, it indicates that sterilisation was successful.
Characteristics of the BT20 Biological Indicator:
- Biological indicator designed for steam sterilisation process control.
- It has a colour indicator to indicate whether sterilisation was successful or not.
- If it changes from purple to yellow, it means that there are live Geobacillus stearothermophilus spores and that the sterilisation cycle was unsuccessful.
- If it remains purple, the sterilisation was successful. The final reading should be taken 24 hours after incubation.
- Ideal for vacuum assisted steam sterilisation cycles at 121-134°C and for gravity air displacement steam sterilisation cycles at 121-134°C.
- Incubate the processed biological indicator and the indicator used as positive control for a maximum of 24 hours at 60±2 ºC.
- Content: 1 box of 100 pcs.
Technical Specifications of the Biological Indicator BT20:
- Polypropylene random copolymer tube, 44.0 mm high, 8.5 mm outer diameter. Wall thickness 0.5 mm.
- Polypropylene cap: 13.0 mm high, 10.5 mm outer diameter. Wall thickness 1.0 mm.
- Glass bulb: 35.0 to 38.0 mm high. Outer diameter: 6.5 mm. Wall thickness of 0.2 - 0.3 mm.
- Culture medium: 0.5 - 0.7 ml, purple colour.
- Lid filter: medical grade paper 60 g/m2, 16.0 mm diameter.
- Filter paper: 8.0 mm diameter and 160 g/m2.
- D-value: not less than 1.5 minutes at 121º C. Another D-value is obtained at 134°C for the calculation of the Z-value.
- Z-value: not less than 6°C.
How to use the BT20 Biological Indicator:
- Step 1: Write on the tube label the steriliser number (if you have more than one), load number and processing date.
- Step 2: Place the biological indicator with the material to be sterilised in a suitable package according to sterilisation practices.
- Step 3: Sterilise in the usual way.
- Step 4: Once the sterilisation process is complete and after 5 minutes, remove the biological indicator from the package.
- Step 5: Leave to cool until it returns to room temperature.
- Step 6: Check that the chemical indicator printed on the indicator label has changed to brown. This indicates that it was exposed to steam.
- Step 7: Break the ampoule contained in the indicator and incubate it for 24 h at 60±2 ºC.
- Step 8: Observe if the colour changes from purple to yellow (unsuccessful process) or if it remains purple (successful sterilisation).
