Reabsorbable Sutures

Resorbable Sutures are sutures that the body is able to degrade and reabsorb after a certain time.

The enzymes present in the human body are able to disintegrate the material that makes the resorbable sutures through a biological process, this has the advantage that it means that the suture doesn´t have to be removed, since the body itself is able to absorb it

The time that the body takes to absorb a suture will depend on the material it´s manufactured from. That is why there are dental resorbable sutures of the following materials:

• Polyglycolic Acid or PGA : Polyglycolic acid has a very high initial resistance and is reabsorbed without causing great inflammation or interfering with the healing process. Total reabsorption of this suture occurs between 42 and 90 days.
• Polidioxanone : Polidioxanone is a material that has a prolonged reabsorption process. Total reabsorption of this suture occurs between 180 and 220 days.
