Jorge Bueno, a representative from Bien Air, visited us at Dentaltix to tell us about all the new features of Lubricare 2.
This device is the second version of the Lubricare machine, which cleans and lubricates rotary instruments automatically. Don't miss a single part of this Q&A session!
With Lubricare 2, automatic maintenance of rotary instruments is faster, more efficient and more economical

Why is it important to clean and lubricate rotary instruments? Also, what happens if we don't do it properly or at all?
For several reasons, firstly because we are dealing with medical instruments that are used from one patient to the next, so we must be very careful with the external and internal cleaning of instruments after each patient. After cleaning, we must grease the instrument to extend the instrument's life and ensure that it lasts for many years in optimum conditions of use.
When done manually, the external cleaning can be done with a disinfectant wipe and the internal cleaning should be done with an alcohol-based spray. The lubrication depends on the instrument, and can be done with a medical grease or with an oil spray.
It can also be done with Lubricare 2, which is an automatic machine that makes the whole process much faster and more effective.
How does Lubricare 2 work?
It's a very easy-to-use machine and allows complete maintenance, both cleaning and greasing, to be carried out automatically.
The machine has four positions, the first two are for cleaning and the other two are for greasing.
For contra angles it is a standard connection for all the brands on the market and for turbines it depends on the coupling that our turbine uses, in this example, we have used a Unifix coupling, but you could use any other coupling of another brand of turbine.
➜To perform instrument cleaning:

- Open the door and place the instruments on the cleaning couplings.
- Close the door.
- Mark the positions where the instruments are positioned.
- Press the "Start" button.
The cycle lasts 25 seconds and cleans both externally and internally with SprayNet, which cleans all organic debris and dirt from the instrument.
➜Once the cleaning cycle is complete, the instruments are lubricated:

- Open the door and remove the contra-angle and turbine from the cleaning couplings to put them in the greasing position.
- Close the door.
- Mark the positions where the instruments are located.
- Close the door.
- Press the "Start" button.
In this part of the cycle, the Lubricare 2 introduces oil and air, so that when the instrument comes out of the machine it is oiled and purged of any excess oil. That way we can now work with the instrument in the patient's mouth without the need to purge it again and we avoid oil drops falling into the patient's mouth.
The Lubricare 2 process is very efficient, very fast and consistent because it is done by a machine and does not rely on manual operation, which sometimes we can do more or less carefully, but the machine always does to exactly the same standards every time.
Another very interesting thing about Lubricare 2 is the function it has to destroy the clamping system of the burr clamping. When the burr is stuck in the turbine or the burr does not grip properly, it can be inserted into Lubricare 2 to put an extra dose of oil into the clamping system. This way, many turbines where the clamp does not work properly due to blockage caused by dirt can be recovered. This solves many service call-outs due to this issue.
What advantages does Lubricare 2 have over manual instrument cleaning?
The difference is great. Initially, it may seem that Lubricare 2 is an additional expense in the clinic, but when we use a spray cleaner such as Bien Air's SprayNet to clean an instrument internally, there will be spills and we can get our hands dirty. Then we have to grease the instrument with the Lubrifluid oil bottle manually, i.e. we get dirty and also use much more spray than if we use Lubricare 2.
- Manual cleaning and lubrication: each bottle lasts about 80 cleans.
- Cleaning and lubrication with Lubricare 2: each bottle lasts about 400 cycles.
Which oils are recommended for use in Lubricare 2?
Bien Air recommends the SprayNet cleaning agent and Lubrifluid oil
SprayNet is an alcohol-based cleaner that removes 99.9% of bacteria and viruses.
LubriFluid is the Bien Air certified oil for rotary instruments that will extend the life of your instruments by many years.
These are two high quality sprays that will ensure that our rotary instruments will be in optimal conditions to work with our patients.
And now that you know the advantages that Lubricare 2 can add to your dental practice, do you still want to manually lubricate your rotary instruments? Surely not!
