GC Dental Cementation Solutions

21/04/2023 - 13:31

In the following article: “GC Dental Cement Solutions” we tell you everything that Dr. Rosalía Marcano featured in collaboration with GC. The doctor talks about the considerations to take into account when choosing dental cement, which are the most appropriate types of cement for each clinical case and the different types of application, among other things. Keep reading, discover everything that Dr. Rosalía Marcano detailed in this talk and see the outstanding GC in Dentaltix!

First things first, a cement has different types and uses in the way it is used. They are materials made up of components applied to a surface, characterized by the firmness and adhesion they acquire. A quality dental cement must remain in good condition for an indefinite time and must act as an impediment between the cemented material and the tooth.

What should be taken into account when selecting a cement?

  1. Isolation: Isolate subgingival margins and account for tissue and fluids.
  2. Easy access.
  3. Preservation of dental pieces.
  4. High resistance.
  5. Materials: both for restoration and pillars.

Cementing offers the possibility of acting in situations that are not so favorable, provides resistance to filtration, is simple, comfortable, and biocompatible to apply. One should consider that before the preparation of the abutments, it is important to know the height (from 2 to 4 mm) and the occlusal convergence (from 8 to 20º) of the different cements (conventional, adhesive and others).

In what cases should cements be used?

  • If there is mechanical retention.
  • In cases where it is possible to insulate, otherwise, resin cements can be used for optimal moisture insulation.
  • The demand for aesthetics is not high.
  • Special demands on patients.

Solutions in GC Dental Cementation:

Glass ionomer-based cements:

The Glass ionomer cements are characterized by a good resistance to compression and the creation of chemical bonds between dentin enamel and collagens. They are composed of crystals of fluoro-aluminium silicate and polyacrylic acid generating an acid-base reaction. It's function is to prevent and block cavities.

Resin Modified Glass Ionomer Cements:

The resin-modified glass ionomers arise after the reaction of silicate glass and polyalkenoic acid. The ions of the dental structure are exchanged. They are used for a wide variety of intended purposes and improve aesthetics and adhesion capacity.

One of the options when choosing a good resin-modified glass ionomer is FujiCEM 2 from GC: with years of improvements behind it, it is a highly reputable material with Force technology Fusion. It offers satisfactory treatments and excellent properties.

GC FujiCEM 2 Features:

  • Chemical adhesion that ensures an excellent marginal seal.
  • High resistance to bending.
  • Good moisture tolerance.
  • You will not need to etch or place bonding.
  • It allows you to remove excess easily thanks to its rubbery consistency.
  • Constant fluoride release.
  • Wide variety of applications: metal-based restorations, metal, ceramic and fiber posts, and cast posts and cores.
  • You can choose between manual mixing or automixing.
  • No postoperative sensitivity.

Before using this ionomer, you must clean the area where you will work, mix and apply the product, then place it in the mouth, remove excess and finally wait to finish in 4 minutes.

Steps in cementation

Adhesive cements:

If there is something that characterizes this type of cement, it is its high adhesion capacity on the surfaces of the teeth and tissues. Its use is recommended if retentive preparations cannot be made, if there may be isolation, if the aesthetic requirement is high, and also if additional chemical bonding is needed. Cementing with adhesives or self-adhesives requires prior preparation of the substrate, preparation of the restoration and taking into account the type of cement you choose and its polymerization.

The G-CEM LinkForce dual-curing adhesive cement is a “must” for CAD/CAM and hybrid ceramic blocks, it also has excellent color stability.

G-CEM LinkForce Features:

  • Possibility of choosing between light-curing or self-curing.
  • Ideal for inlays and onlays
  • For ceramic or hybrid crowns and bridges.
  • Stable color and fluorescence.
  • Kit contents:
    • 1 G-CEM LinkForce (A2 or you can choose translucent) 8.7 gram (5 ml) syringe
    • 20 GC automix Tip Regular
    • 1 G-multi PRIMER (5 ml)
    • 1 BOND G-Premio (5 ml)

Extraoral self-adhesive cementation:

This solution in cementation is carried out when no prior preparation or the use of coupling agents is required. Chemical adhesion of titanium-zirconium is produced allowing the material to polymerize. Excess material can be done with LED light for 20 seconds (700 mW minimum).

Universal adhesive cementation:

Allows adhesion with all forms of engraving for all materials, ceramics and hybrid materials. Possibility of polymerization with or without light.

G-Premio BOND is a universal adhesive prepared for composite dental structures for the restoration of dual-curing stumps and for adhesive luting cements.

Features of G-Premio BOND:

  • One-component light-curing universal adhesive.
  • Compatible with all engraving models.
  • Treatment of hypersensitive teeth.
  • Sealing of dental preparations for indirect restorations.
  • Possesses the combination of three functional monomers (4-META, MDP, MDTP).
  • Long working time, excellent handling and optimum wettability.
  • Does not discolor, does not leave residues and does not cause postoperative sensitivity.
  • Contains 1 bottle of 5 ml.

Self-adhesive cementation:

Are you looking for a self-adhesive resin cement that simplifies your indirect restorations? G Cem One by GC it's just what you need. In this blog we will not only tell you why, but we will also demonstrate it with two interesting clinical cases that will surprise you.

Simplifying and getting more predictable results is definitely the best combination. With G Cem One you can solve a wide range of clinical indications with the peace of mind of using a truly universal cement, not sensitive to technique, with high adhesion strength and excellent self-curing capacity.

G Cem One self-adhesive resin cement has an optimized workflow

In addition, you can optionally use G Cem One Adhesive Enhancing Primer for your most difficult cases, accelerating the chemical polymerization of the cement from the tooth surface and guaranteeing a more stable adhesion. You don't need to have a conventional resin cement just in case you need to use it, because you can use a universal self-adhesive resin cement such as G Cem One which, in combination with your primer, can be used as a conventional adhesive resin cement! Yes! , all in one!
