What should you consider when choosing your binocular loupes?

05/11/2019 - 15:35

Choosing the right binocular loupes is not as easy as it seems, often the lack of information makes you wear lenses that can affect not only your eyesight or your comfort, but also your work. There are different types, specialties and brands, so at Dentaltix we show you a small guide to make the right choice of your loupes and why it is so important to use them in the clinic.

Why use binocular loupes?

More than 80% of dentists suffer from neck and back pain. Poor posture in the clinic is the main cause of muscle aches and contractures. The use of magnifying glasses avoids a greater inclination towards the patient and it is possible to improve the posture and therefore the pains suffered by the specialist.

By seeing the patient's oral cavity better, better diagnoses and finishes are achieved, giving better results and increasing customer satisfaction in your practice.

Increase the level of patient confidence by giving a more professional and detailed image.

  • Ergonomics and posture:
  • Greater visualization of the patient's oral cavity
  • Greater credibility and trust

What aspects should be taken into account when choosing your magnifying glasses?

Lens quality:

The best method of evaluating this quality is to look at an object with straight black lines. The most common sign of poor quality lenses is low resolution instead of totally straight and clear lines.

Working distance:

The distance from the dentist's eyes to the patient's mouth. It is necessary to adopt a posture that not only allows to work easily but also to avoid pains. The working distance depends on the height of the specialist and the way he or she works.

HEIGHT <170cm 170- 190cm >190cm
Sitting 34cm 42cm 50cm
FROM FOOT 42cm 50cm 55cm

Field of vision:

The field of vision is the area of operation seen through the magnifying glasses. Health professionals appreciate a wider field of vision because it is easier and faster to adjust and treat a patient and also promotes less eye fatigue. Field width is related to magnifier diameter, optical design and magnification power.

Light transmission:

Optimized light transmission means working with less light, reducing visual effort and minimizing bright light exposure to the patient.

Depth of field:

Depth of field is the range of focus delivered by the magnifier. This determines how much the magnifier can be tilted or moved while still maintaining the attention of the entire field of view. Depth of field depends on the illumination, optical design, magnification power, visual fatigue and the eye's ability to focus with less effort.

Enlargement or magnification:

The magnification of an optic is the relationship between the size of the image and the size of the object. It is a function of the characteristic of the optics and the distance to the object.

So, with regard to all these aspects to be taken into account to choose the best binocular loupes adapted to the need of each specialis.

Maintenance of binocular loupes:

It is not only important to know how to choose your loupes but also to have a good maintenance of them for their full operation. To do this after use, it is never too much to clean them with water and detergent and rinse them later. A surface disinfectant can be used for its correct and complete cleaning.

So finally taking into account all these features and benefits of having binocular loupes in your hands, dare to gain in health and have a look at our catalog on the web.
