VIDU ORTHODONTIC CHROMATIC ALGINATE · PLASTIC NEUTRAL CERTIFIED · ZERO PLASTIC FOOTPRINT
The alginate used in dentistry is a non-recyclable material. To avoid its environmental impact, the use of intraoral scanners that allow the patient's mouth to be digitalized is recommended as an alternative. In the United Kingdom, research projects on the recycling of gypsum and alginates have been initiated with good results. But currently it is difficult to find an alternative and its consumption is recommended responsibly.
And regarding the plastic footprint generated by the packaging of the alginate package. VIDU has reached an agreement with RePurpose, an organization that has developed the largest certified network of plastic collection projects in the world, according to which it collects, through the Nuevo Ciclo project, in Colombia, the same amount of plastic as that is generated.

Unfortunately alginate is a non-recyclable material. On the other hand, having been used in the mouth, it is considered contaminated material due to potential biological risk. To avoid its environmental impact, the use of intraoral scanners is recommended as an alternative, which allows the patient's mouth to be digitized without generating so much non-recyclable waste.
VIDU Alginate comes in laminated plastic packages, because we need to protect the product from contact with light, oxygen and humidity. The plastic bag that the alginate comes in is laminated polypropylene. It is a product composed of a multilayer structure, in which several materials are fused together, making its recycling very complicated. At VIDU we work in collaboration with RePurpose in the development of alternative waste management solutions and we hope to soon be able to offer new solutions.
